Hundreds of locals and and officers raised their arms as they cross the finish line, celebrating a great run.
The Royal Road Race took place yesterday at Depot Division on Saturday morning.
Several notable guests were in attendance, including Canada’s Minister of Public Safety Ralph Goodale.
He said this race, all in all, is a fantastic way for the public to get out, get some exercise and interact with law enforcement.
“Not a lot of community people actually get a chance to come on Depot, see what it’s like, meet the recruits while they’re training and so forth,” he said. “And the Road Race gives a great opportunity for the community and Depot to work together on something that’s really important.”
Goodale also addressed the sheer volume of people who attended the race at Depot, either as spectators or participants, is doing something important: engaging with police and developing a level of mutual trust and respect.
“We live in a country that’s very safe and a country that’s very well served by top notch police officers, non more so than the RCMP,” said Goodale.
