Representatives from the RM of Edenwold have responded to the annexation request made by the town of White City.
In giving their answer, the RM referenced an annexation that took place in 2015, where the town was able to add to their city, but have yet to do so.
Reeve Mitch Huber says he and the RM staff are willing to talk to White City officials with the intention of doing what’s best for that area.
“To try and give a full and complete answer is challenging, but our position would be is we want to do what’s right for our residents and for our businesses, and that’s front and centre for us,” Huber says. “We’re proud of the work and the development that’s gone on out there, and we continue to push forward, and we want to keep growing.”
Senior Municipal Planner Jana Jedlic says when it comes to business development, the RM has more experience in the matter.
“Businesses including the restaurants, the gas stations, the grocery store, the new liquor store, the amenities, the golf course, the skating rink, all of those are located in the RM of Edenwold, in fact there is only one highway commercial business located in the town of White City,” Jedlic says. “It’s very important to know that the community that has more experience in that type of development is the RM of Edenwold.”
Jedlic later talked about the possibility of a Municipal district, where the two municipalities would come together to create one new entity.
While there are several Municipal District’s in Alberta, this would be the first ever one in Saskatchewan.
