Heading into Wednesday, Saturday’s 2.5 million dollar jackpot has gone unclaimed by a ticket holder in Regina.
The 5 million dollar prize was won by two people with the same numbers, with the other ticket holder being from Calgary.
Kevin van Egdom from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation says they typically hear from the winner pretty quickly after they win.
“With million dollar prizes, in a lot of cases we hear from winners really quickly but people do have up to a year,” van Egdom says. “I hope people are checking their tickets because you probably want to know as soon as you can if you’re that winner.”
van Egdom from Western Canada Lottery Corporation describes what happens if the prize goes unclaimed.
“The prize goes back into the unclaimed prize fund, where it goes back into prizes; it helps us create bigger jackpots down the road,” van Egdom says. “(It’s) great if it goes unclaimed because it will go back to players eventually.”
However, van Egdom says it’s better if the player who originally won the prize can claim it.
Another million dollar prize was won somewhere else in Saskatchewan last Wednesday, and that prize also has yet to be claimed.
