On the two month anniversary of the horrific bus crash that killed 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos organization, one of the players injured left a Saskatoon hospital.
18-year-old defenceman Xavier Labelle and his family released a statement in which he says “I am able to walk and look forward to eventually running and skating. I am healing, and I am feeling better every day.”
Labelle, who it was originally thought had died in the April 6 crash, suffered a fractured skull, a concussion, nerve damage impacting his legs and left arm, internal bleeding, and several other internal injuries, along with approximately 20 broken bones.
The statement adds he has no recollection of the crash, he is very grateful to all of those ranging from first responders to hospital staff for the help and care he has received and that he will never forget the 16 on the bus who were killed as the Broncos were on their way to Nipawin for a playoff game.
Labelle plans on graduating from a Saskatoon school at the end of the month.
