You saw that headline correctly. The dummy has returned! That dummy is me because for the 2nd time in a month I locked my keys in my truck while it was running! That sick gut feeling also came back at the sight of the keys still in the ignition with the truck still running. But wait! It gets better because my house keys were also on that same ring attached to the ignition. Ohhhh what a way to start Thursday!
As I was standing on the sidewalk waiting for the tow truck I was trying to think of why I did this…again. The answer seemed obvious; in just too much of a hurry. Locking one’s keys in the vehicle is a reminder to slow the hell down and pay attention! As I parked along the street I looked out the side window and mirror and noticed there was no traffic coming, making it safe to step out not realizing I got to turn the vehicle off and take the keys out first!
Once again, I sheepishly called the same towing company to get me back in. I have to thank Club Towing in Regina for being professional as always and making me feel less silly than I already felt. It’s good to know I’m not the only who does this frequently!
I haven’t locked my keys, or any pairs of keys, in a vehicle for over 20 years and all of a sudden I’ve done it twice within one month. Should I become a CAA member? It’s looking like that might be a wise plan. It’s probably much more comfortable than walking around with a coat hanger in my back pocket. So let this be a lesson for everybody. Slow down, ensure your vehicle is off, make sure you have your keys, then get out of your vehicle. If you don’t, well, I can recommend a great towing company to help you out!
