Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve McLellan didn’t think there was a problem when he went to North Dakota to visit with his counterparts even though Canada and the U-S are embroiled in a tariffs war and he was correct.
McLellan says the meeting showed the two are still very much united and the relationship is strong.
“We wanted to make sure we were on the same page if you will and that our trade relationship remains solid and we both found that indeed it is.” McLellan said Tuesday morning.
Exports to North Dakota totalled over $518 million in 2017 while Saskatchewan imported nearly $1.6 billion over the same period.
McLellan is coming away from the get-together believing both realize how important they are to one another and that his intent is to now foster and enhance relationships with other states like Montana, South Dakota and Minnesota.
