ESTEVAN, Sask. — A man who was already charged with assault and sexual assault has a couple of new charges.
The Estevan Police Service (EPS) announced in the Aug. 27 media release that the individual, a 45-year-old man, had been charged with the two offences. He was lodged in cells and appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on Aug. 31.
The man has since been charged with sexual interference and incest. He appeared in Carlyle Provincial Court on Sept. 2 and was scheduled to have his matter in Estevan Provincial Court the following day for what was listed as a show-cause hearing.
In other recent police news, according to the Sept. 1 EPS news release, a report came in of a wallet stolen from a vehicle the previous night. The matter remains under investigation.
EPS members conducted a well-being check on an Estevan man at the request of family members. The EPS said e individual was found to be safe and well and not in need of further assistance.
A report of a suspicious woman acting strangely on private property was investigated. Members attended, the EPS said, and located the woman, who is known to police, and sent her on her way.
A complaint of several fraudulent charges on a credit card came in and the EPS said it remains under investigation.
Officers received a complaint of two people going through a boat in the Trojan area. The EPS said members located two individuals a short distance away who matched the description and subsequently arrested one of them for public intoxication. The investigation is ongoing, pending the complainant determining if anything was stolen from the boat during the incident.
EPS members attended to a residence for an unwanted house guest who was refusing to leave. On police arrival, the EPS said she left without incident.
Compliance checks on two youths bound by court-ordered conditions determined they were not obeying their curfew. Additional charges for breaching these conditions are to be laid, and the EPS said the youths will be arrested and processed once located.
A complaint came in Sept. 2 of two suspicious people near a business in central Estevan. The individuals left the scene prior to police arrival, and the EPS said no further complaints were received.
A report was received of a girl who left school and whose parents could not be contacted. Members located the youth and the EPS said she had been the subject of a curfew check the prior night, during which she had not been present. She was arrested, charged with failing to comply with court-ordered conditions and lodged in cells to appear in court Sept. 3.
Police received a report of a suspicious man outside a local business during the night shift. The EPS said members located the man and he was arrested for public intoxication. While being searched following his arrest, he was found to be in possession of property reported stolen the previous day. He was transported to the police station, charged accordingly and will be released once sober, with a future court date to speak to the charge.
During night shift, the EPS received a complaint of two men causing a disturbance in the lobby of a hotel in east Estevan. The EPS said members attended and spoke with staff, witnesses and both men. They were cautioned about their behaviour and directed to return to their rooms. No further concerns were reported by staff at the hotel.
