If March felt a bit chilly to you, you’re not alone.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Terri Lang said it was a bit cooler than average this past month.

“Most of Saskatchewan did come in as colder than average, and certainly the further west you went, the warmer it was and the further east you went, the cooler it was, compared to our 30 year averages,” Lang said. “Certainly the cold spells outweighed the warmer spells.”

According to data compiled by ECCC, Regina’s monthly mean temperature for March was minus 6.0 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees cooler than the normal. Moose Jaw was 1.6 degrees cooler than normal, and Saskatoon was 1.2 degrees cooler.

The mean temperature in Swift Current was cooler as well and didn’t get above cooler until the middle of the month.

Precipitation was dry across much of the province, according to the ECCC data. Estevan has 18 per cent of their normal preciptiation for the month, while Moose Jaw was 25 per cent and Regina was 38 per cent. Yorkton and Swift Current were at 42 and 49 per cent respectively.

Saskatoon was at 113 per cent of normal precipitation and North Battleford was at 104 per cent.

The immediate forecast calls for some above average temperatures this week.
