01/25/10 A Taste Of The Past

Some of  our South Saskatchewan residents have learned what it’s like to live without some crucial amenities, such as power and phone coverage. Everyday we wake up and take for granted that, with the flick of a switch, we control the environment around us. From making coffee to turning up the heat, we take for granted that our daily routine will continue as normal. When we lose control, of these daily functions, we sometimes don’t know how to cope with the situation. Try going for 3 days without power or phone service.

   Snow and more snow

Community’s such as, Coronach, Ogema, Lake Alma, Rockglen, Scout Lake, Bengough among others, know what it is like. It would be like going back to the stone age for some. Now think of our ancestors and the pioneers that came before us and the hardships they endured. One of my listeners said ”It sure slows the world down”. I couldn’t of said it any better. Another caller said that his cows would have to eat snow for a day or two until he can get the tractor out of the shed and started.

here’s a few of the calls I took today ……………..   Southern Sask callers on conditions

As much as I admire what my grandparents went through, thank God, I grew up in this era.

If you have any photo’s of the snow in your area, feel free to send me some or if you want to comment on the conditions in your area please do so and I’ll add them to my blog.

thanks
