RCMP officers fired at during pursuit on Onion Lake First Nation

Five people, that RCMP say are gang associates, are in custody after a police chase on New Year’s Day where shots were fired.

In a news release, RCMP say they were alerted to an incident where a black SUV had driven onto someone’s property after smashing through a fence west of the Onion Lake First Nation, north of Lloydminster.

As officers were chasing the SUV, someone inside stuck a gun out the window and fired shots.

The vehicle stopped outside of the Onion Lake High School where two men including the alleged driver got out and ran. They were eventually arrested as were three others inside the SUV.

RCMP say as police were chasing the SUV someone inside stuck a gun out the window and fired at the officers.

A search of the vehicle turned up two SKS rifles, a sawed-off shotgun, a sawed off .22 and ammunition
