The Regina Pats had to settle for one point last night as they were defeated by the Calgary Hitmen by a score of 4-3 in a shootout.

The Pats got off to a strong start outshooting the Hitmen in the first period 23-7 but found themselves trailing 2-1 after the period.

Assistant Coach Ken Schneider says he was disappointed they could not take advantage of their start. “Little disappointed that we didn’t have a better result because we really outplayed our opponent in the first period, had some glorious opportunities and we just didn’t click.”

The Hitmen would take a 3-1 lead in the 2nd period, before the Pats would tie the game before sending it to overtime. The game had to be decided in a shootout after overtime settled nothing, Sean Tschigerl of Calgary was the only player who scored in the shootout to give Calgary the win.

Scoring for the Pats were Ryker Evans, Logan Nijhoff, and Zack Stringer. All of the Pats three goals came on the powerplay.

Drew Sim made 28 saves in the loss for Regina, and he felt last night was his best effort since joining the Pats. “Coming into it I felt really good, probably the best I’ve felt since I’ve been here and that’s just from what I’ve been doing away from game days and putting in the work and finally came through for me.”

The Pats will continue their homestand on Friday when they entertain the Brandon Wheat Kings, a game you can catch on 620 CKRM beginning with the pregame show at 6:35.
