Two Saskatchewan men arrested on several charges including weapons, drugs, and assault

RCMP has arrested two Saskatchewan men after a month-long search.

27-year-old Hubert Cardinal of Canoe Lake Cree Nation and 40-year-old Edwin Corrigal of Prince Albert were arrested on January 13 and 15 for several different charges including weapons, drugs, and assault.

Warrants for their arrests were issued in mid-December after an incident at a bar in Beauval.

The two men reportedly went to the bar wearing masks and were threatening people with a gun and a machete. No injuries were reported from this incident.

Based on continued investigation, Cardinal and Corrigal were believed to be in Canoe Lake Cree Nation but initial efforts to locate the men were unsuccessful.

Officers issued warrants for their arrest and notified the community as efforts to locate Cardinal and Corrigal continued in the following weeks.

Then on January 13, after the Beauval RCMP worked with the Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team, the men were believed to be at a residence located on the 200th block of Primrose East on the Canoe Lake Cree Nation based on gathered information.

When police went to the residence, Corrigal was found in the backyard and was arrested without any issue.

When he was arrested, Corrigal was found with the following:

  • A loaded sawed-off shotgun
  • Machete
  • 7 individual bags of crack cocaine hidden in a plastic egg container
  • Approximately 7 grams of crack cocaine wrapped in foil
  • Approximately 11 grams of marijuana
  • A sum of cash

Cardinal was thought to be inside the residence, so the  Meadow Lake CRT obtained and executed a Feeney warrant to enter the residence but Cardinal was not found.

Just a couple of days later on January 15, Meadow Lake RCMP were traveling back to the residence on Primerose East to try and locate Cardinal again. On their way there, they spotted a black van driving on the road that was at the residence on January 13 when Corrigal was arrested.

Police pulled over the vehicle and saw two occupants.

After the occupants followed instructions to exit the van, police searched the vehicle and found Cardinal hiding in the back of the van under a blanket and the RCMP proceeded to arrest him.

The two other people in the van were released with no charges.

Now, 27-year-old Hubert Cardinal of Canoe Lake Cree Nation is facing charges of:

  • Attempt to take a weapon in possession of Police Officer.
  • Assault Police Officer.
  • Resist Arrest.
  • Two counts, fail to comply with release order.

40-year-old Edwin Corrigal of Prince Albert is being charged with:

  • Possess firearm while prohibited.
  • Possess ammunition while prohibited.
  • Unsafe storage.
  • Possession of cocaine.
