WEATHER ALERT: Wind Warnings now dominate southern Sask. with Winter Storm Warnings issued further north

Potentially damaging winds are expected across much of central and southern Saskatchewan later on Wednesday and into early Thursday morning, while Winter Storm Warnings have now been issued for areas a little further north, as a clipper system makes its way through the province.

Wind Warnings are in effect for Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and the southwest and southeast corners of the province. Gusts of 110 km/h and sustained winds of 80 km/h are expected from late Wednesday afternoon until the morning commute Thursday.

Snow squall watches have also been put into place for much of Saskatchewan Wednesday evening.

The strong winds will subside below warning criteria by Thursday morning, but will remain blustery through the remainder of Thursday.

Environment Canada says damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Store or anchor objects so they are not tossed by the wind causing injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds. Drivers may lose control of their vehicles, tall vehicles are at risk of being overturned.

The Winter Storm Warnings are in place for the Battlefords, Prince Albert, La Ronge and the Melfort area.

Snowfall totals of up to 15 cm are expected in those areas, with periods of freezing rain earlier on Wednesday.
