The latest Sask crop report says recent rain provides significant relief for parched fields

The latest crop report says recent rain will help relieve dry soil conditions in southern Saskatchewan.

Provincial crops analyst Cory Jacob says the rainfall varied greatly but will encourage crop development.

Jacob says more rain will be needed.

But he says the moisture will ensure pasture growth and crop germination.

The latest estimates for Regina are about an inch or 25 millimeters of rain over the past 24 hours.

Jacob says some areas in the central part of the grainbelt still need rain.

Jacob says the majority of crop damage this past week was due to strong winds, insects like flea beetles, cutworms and grasshoppers, and a lack of moisture.
