The Regina Pats played their first game since January 1st yesterday and the layoff did not hinder their scoring efforts as they hammered the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-1.

The Pats had six different goal scorers in the win.

Assistant Coach Ken Schnieder was happy with the way the Pats responded on Sunday after a lengthy break. “There’s always a fear you kind of get slack with practice, practice, practice, and our opponent had a game or two under their belt before we got our first game back, we did a lot of things right. I was really pleased with how we played defensively, even when we weren’t inside of our zone.”

Tanner Howe led the scoring charge for the Pats picking up a pair of goals, Jakob Brook, Connor Bedard, Zack Stringer, Cole Carrier and Drew Englot also scored for the Pats.

Englot says the team has been doing a lot of positive things on home ice recently as the Pats have won six out of their last seven at the Brandt Centre. “I think we have been staying consistent, and we have had a lot of different goal scorers on our team, so I think everyone is starting to find their groove, it’s nice to see.”

Matthew Kieper made 21 saves in the win for Regina, while the powerplay was 3 for 5.

The Pats won’t have to wait long for their next matchup as the Calgary Hitmen will visit the Brandt Centre in a game that was originally suppose to be played last Tuesday. You can catch the game on 620 CKRM beginning with pregame show at 6:35.
