Sask. government looking at new rules around name changes

The Saskatchewan government wants to prevent sex offenders from changing their names after being released from custody.

The province’s Justice Minister Don Morgan says anyone who requests a name change would have to go through a criminal record check.

He says it would focus on those convicted of sexual offences involving children and vulnerable adults.

The rule change could take effect next month if approved by cabinet.
