Teams leave WHL East bubble smiling as return-to-play plan passes with flying colours

The seven WHL Eastern Division teams have completed their 48-day, 24-game shortened season inside a Regina bubble, and they did so with no positive COVID-19 tests, as all 84 games went off without a hitch.

A lot of work was put into presenting a plan to the Saskatchewan Health Authority that would allow a season to be played and it was a plan that obviously worked thanks to many.

Regina Pats Chief Operating Officer Stacey Cattell says one of the keys was all seven teams working together to make it happen on and off the ice…

“Everyone here came here with the same attitude.” Cattell said Thursday afternoon. “If we are going to do this, we have to do it together and we have to stick together.  The organizations all deserve a lot of credit.  They aren’t the only ones.  Many groups and individuals came through to make this a massive success including volunteers who made sacrifices to make this happen.”

Cattell says this also shows that Regina set a new standard as to how they can host things and it was a great experience.
