Saskatoon Police say a telephone immigration scam is occurring in Saskatoon and across Canada.
According to authorities, callers contact the victim claiming to be from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
The fraudsters try to scare individuals by quoting laws that person supposedly violated – they are threatened with warrants for arrest, jail time, loss of immigration status and deportation if a fine is not paid.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada does not contact the public via phone and demand payments of any kind.
If you have lost money from a scam such as this please contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300.
Those who have been contacted in an attempted fraud may choose to make a report online.
