The extreme windchill over the weekend was a factor in the province’s natural gas consumption beating last year’s record by 2-percent.
SaskEnergy’s Casey MacLeod says the weather and the fact that there are about 5-thousand more customers in the system, compared to last year at this time, but the industry sector has also increased its usage.
“We do see a lot of consumption from our bigger industrial customers, things like enhanced oil recovery and power generation.”
MacLeod adds there are no concerns about not having enough gas with the record setting and near record-setting usage days becoming more frequent.
She explains SaskEnergy’s system factors in increased growth so that even on peak record days the system is able to provide more natural gas than required.
