Premier Brad Wall is using social media to speak out on comments made by Montreal mayor Denis Coderre and others against the Energy East pipeline.
Coderre says the environmental risks of the pipeline far outweigh any economic benefits for the region.
Wall says it is a “sad day” for Canada when the leaders of a province which benefits from being part of Canada can be narrow-minded about a project which will benefit all of Canada.
Wall re-iterated pipelines are a safe and environmentally friendly way to transport oil, and safer than rail.
He also points out that Quebec receives $10 billion in equalization payments this year, asking if it was too much to expect the province’s municipal leaders to support the very sector that has supported them.
The proposed Energy East pipeline would carry crude oil from Alberta, through Saskatchewan and as far east as New Brunswick.
