Wow! I can’t believe how quickly a couple of weeks fly by! Had a wonderful time in beautiful Jamaica.
From the moment we left the house, everything was going as planned.. After arriving at the airport in Jamaica we were quickly herded aboard a couple of buses that would take our radio group of nearly 90 to our hotel. I had never seen the transition from airport to buses to hotel run so smoothly. The check in was quick and painless. Perfect. Just what we needed to start things off.
The resort itself was nice. Food was delicious and drinks were cold and tasty! The only problem was the weather, but hey, nothing you can do about that! The weather reminded me of the Mayan Riviera. Cloudy and windy one moment and then out of nowhere would come the blazing sun, then back to clouds. We had only a few days that were sunny from sun up to sundown, but we made the best of it. Our group commented on how much fun they were having and how much they enjoyed everything.
After one week I met nearly 50 “one weekers” in the lobby and helped get them on the bus for their journey home, while 40 of us lingered behind for another week.
Aside from the weather, things were moving along “glitch free,” a little too glitch free for my liking. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, which it didn’t, until we found out a day before coming home that our flight would be delayed four hours. We were supposed to leave the hotel for the airport on departure day at 11:25. We found out that the bus wouldn’t be picking us up until 3:30. Argh! There is nothing worse than wanting to get home and having to sit and wait in a hotel lobby for 4-5 hours! For an impatient guy like me, that’s an eternity.
So 7 of us decided to grab a taxi, which is actually a small bus, and depart for the airport a couple of hours before anyone else. If I have to wait, I’d rather do it at the airport after all of my luggage has been checked in. That taxi ride alone was an adventure. I’ll get to that tomorrow!
But, we made it home safely, and that’s all that counts.
I came in this morning and remembered my passwords to everything and my combination to the lock on my locker, and there was even water in the coffee machine.
For day #1 back to work, that’s pretty darn good!
