The Regina Pats battled hard but came up short in a 3-2 loss in Prince Albert on Friday night to the Raiders.
In the first period the Pats got off to a great start and led 7-0 on the shot clock in the early going but Rylan Parenteau stood tall and kept the game scoreless. Then the Raiders turned the momentum and opened the scoring at 10:28. Carson Miller put home a rebound for his 2nd goal in as many WHL games in his career from Dalton Yorke and Vojtech Budik and it was 1-0. The Pats then took their first penalty but down a man tied the game 1-1. Adam Brooks hit Austin Wagner for a breakaway and he made no mistake scoring his 6th shorty and 20th on the season overall at 16:28 and it was 1-1. The Raiders came back on that same powerplay however and took the lead back. Reid Gardiner took a shot that ricochetted off a skate and beat Hollett 5-hole for his 35th from Jesse Lees at 17:33 and it was 2-1. That was the score after 1 with the Pats leading the shots on goal 12-10.
In the second frame the Raiders extended their lead to 3-1 at the 5:37 mark. Dalton Yorke took a centering feed and scored his 2nd of the year with assists to Jordan Tkatch and Reid Gardiner. That was it for Jordan Hollets night in goal after allowing 3 goals on 12 shots, Tyler Brown replaced him. The Pats got that one back on the powerplay. Connor Hobbs hammered a slap shot from the blue line and scored his 13th of the year in his first game back. Cole Sanford and Sam Steel the assists and it was a 3-2 hockey game at the 10 minute mark. Things tightened up after that until the Raiders went to their second powerplay of the game late in the period. They though they had the 4-2 goal with 1.3 seconds left in the frame but it was waived off because of goaltender interference and the Raiders took the 3-2 lead to the break. Prince Albert outshot Regina 8-7 in the frame but the Pats led 19-18 overall.
In the third the Pats carried the bulk of the play but the Raiders did a great job of blocking shots and Rylan Parenteau did the rest. The game remained 3-2 until late in the frame when the Pats pulled Tyler Brown for the extra attacker. Adam Brooks came close to tieing the game but hit the post and it stayed out. The Raiders held on for the 3-2 victory, the shots on goal were 7-7 in the third and the Pats led 26-25 overall.
The Pats powerplay was 1 for 4 in the contest while the penalty kill went 1 for 2 with a short handed marker.
The third star of the game went to the Pats Connor Hobbs who had a goal in his first game back from injury. The second star to the Raiders Reid Gardiner who had a goal and an assist, the first star to Dalton Yorke who also had a goal and an assist.
