An oil and gas industry group has asked Ottawa to help fund the cleanup of inactive oil and gas wells.
The Petroleum Services Association of Canada says the sum it’s requesting 500 million dollars in infrastructure spending will cover a fraction of the work that needs to be done.
Mark Salkeld heads up the group.
He says the industry doesn’t normally ask for government funds, but tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs in the downturn.
Salkeld says the Alberta government is supportive of the proposal.
