SaskEnergy is informing the public it will be conducting a controlled flare of natural gas at its natural gas vehicle refueling station in Regina at 1601 Winnipeg Street Saturday from 9-1
During this process, SaskEnergy will release natural gas from the refueling station in a controlled burn.
Flaring is required to remove the remaining gas from the station before work can begin.
Flaring is an industry standard procedure when natural gas needs to be released from a pipeline and reduces the carbon footprint of the vented natural gas by 85 per cent.
Drivers along that portion of Winnipeg Street may see a 6-foot flame being emitted from the 6-foot flare stack temporarily attached to the NGV refueling station.
The area around the flares will be supervised and barricaded to ensure public safety.
Traffic along Winnipeg Street will not be restricted and various organizations have been notified.
SaskEnergy will have no disruptions of natural gas service to residential and business customers as a result of this exercise.
