An arrest has been made in the homicides of two women in the Lloydminster region.
The body of Jeannette Chief was found outside the city on the Saskatchewan side of the boundary in June 2007, just days after she left the Onion Lake Cree Nation. Her death was then determined to be a homicide.
The remains of Violet Heathen were discovered near Kitscoty, Alberta in November 2009 about six months after she was last seen in Lloydminster. Her homicide investigation took six years.
R-C-M-P say they’ve arrested a 59-year-old Alberta man on two counts of first-degree murder, but his name has not yet been released.
Police are expected to release more details on Thursday.
