The other morning when I couldn’t make my trip out to Assiniboia for my live remote broadcasts for the Assiniboia Spring Fever Lottery due to the bad roads, I ended up staying at the radio station until I was finished, just before 7 P.M.
Apparently, people around here aren’t used to seeing me around much after I get off the air at 10 A.M. I wish I had a dime for every time someone asked me that day, “hey, what are you still doing here?” I could have bought myself a free lunch!
I must admit, I usually don’t linger around for long here at the station after my on-air shift. Why would I? I come in just after 3 and leave just after 10. That’s a seven hour day, minus a lunch or, in this case, a breakfast break. I make sure whatever I have to do gets done before I leave. My major work load happens when I come into work, not before I leave. Why in the world would I hang around the office when all of my work is done? It just doesn’t make any sense. I’m not trying to impress anyone. I could care less if the boss sees me all day long. He knows where I am. All he has to do is turn on the radio to know whether or not I’m doing my job.
I can’t think of many people in this station that would stick around an extra 10 minutes after they were finished work, and I wouldn’t blame them! Most people have a life outside of work. For those who don’t, I’m sorry. That’s kind of sad.
Hey, there’s an old saying. “Like your job, love your family.”
So, make yourself a promise. This long weekend, put work on the back burner and have yourself a fun, work-free weekend!
