Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government will monitor changes it has made to employment insurance to make sure they’re having a positive impact.
Trudeau says that means keeping tabs on statistics, job markets and how families are doing.
Speaking in Calgary after an EI roundtable, Trudeau wouldn’t specifically commit to further improvements to employment insurance.
But he did say the government is always reviewing its decisions and looking at ways to “increase that impact if necessary.”
The budget last week boosted employment insurance benefits for parts of the country, but left some areas of the oilpatch out.
Trudeau said EI has always been regionally based, because it is more challenging to find jobs in some areas and sectors than others.
