Authorities are warning the public of an escaped prisoner, considered to be armed and dangerous.
28-year old Braidy Vermette, charged with first-degree murder, escaped from guards Wednesday night outside Victoria Union Hospital, while on medical escort.
Upon arrival at the hospital, two men showed up in masks, armed with a gun and bear mase, and demanded Vermette be turned over.
Drew Wilby with the Ministry of Corrections says Vermette’s injury could have been self-inflicted.
“It does appear there was an injury to his arm. It’s unclear how that happened and where exactly in the correctional centre it happened, and whether it was self-inflicted or not. I believe the police in Prince Albert are reporting this morning that it is.”
Wilby says the escape was definitely premeditated and an investigation has been launched to learn more.
“We will continue to do our due diligence on those phone calls and on those interviews with other offenders to find out exactly what occurred here.”
Vermette is considered armed and dangerous, and is believed to have ties to a street gang in Prince Albert.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Prince Albert Police Service, the RCMP or 911.
