Regina’s mayor is frustrated over the amount of car thefts in the city because of what he says is negligence by drivers.
At a board of police commissioners meeting this week, it was revealed 60 percent of vehicles stolen in 2015 was because the vehicle was left unlocked with keys being left in the car, and in some cases in the ignition
Michael Fougere says a lot of these thefts could be prevented if common sense was used.
Fougere says it may be worth having a sit-down with SGI to see if something can be done in regards to car insurance for people who have their car stolen because of a negligent action by them like leaving the keys in the ignition.
While frustrated over the latest numbers, Fougere says Regina is nowhere close to being where we were years ago when an auto theft strategy had to be created because of the amount of vehicles being stolen.
