There are questions about the future of the Saskatchewan NDP and its leader Cam Broten.
Broten failed to win his seat in Saskatoon Westview losing to the Saskatchewan Party’s David Buckingham.
Broten spoke to supporters in Saskatoon before going back to an undisclosed location to watch the results in his riding come in and said it was obviously a very disappointing night and not the one he was hoping for.
While he did not address what his future might hold, he did say the New Democrats will continue to fight for what matters to them and their families and that the NDP will keep working to build a stronger, fairer and kinder Saskatchewan.
In the meantime, Saskatchewan Party MLA David Buckingham beat out NDP Leader Cam Broten by less than 300 votes to win the election in Saskatoon-Westview.
Buckingham says it was a little daunting to be up against Broten, but he had full faith in his campaign.
Being a former Mayor and working with the government through the flooding in Borden, he is looking forward to stepping into his new role.
Buckingham says he was one of the people who moved to Alberta for a job before the SaskParty came to power, so his goal is to ensure jobs are available for the generations to come.
