I know, not cool to post something that is a “cut-paste” kind of piece, however I found this interesting.
As kids, we grow up and have idols; bands, singers, actors, comedians, next door neighbours.
The two pieces that are attached are about a band that I loved as a young woman, the all-girl rock band, THE RUNAWAYS!
Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie, Sandy West and Jackie Fox.
I stumbled across this piece that was on CBC radio and wanted to share. A candid commentary from Jackie (Fox) Fuchs about the band’s former manager, Kim Foley. It involves rape and those that turned their back on what happened to Jackie when she was a teenager.
The initial piece is from the Huffington Post.
As Jackie frames this, after forty years, the truth is out. When I think of 1975 and where the band was at this time, their persona was tough, with street cred, a “chew you up & spit you out” attitude.
The account now becomes one of the many sexual assault cases that has taken place in the entertainment business – a house of cards that is falling down and should be noted. (We have heard the stories too that come through sport, military/ police / positions that hold a high regard and power.)
These are interesting times for society. We no longer stand by, or do we, when it comes to unwarranted sexual aggression.
Take a listen and read make your own decisions – there is much going on in the world that involves this hard topic.
