History was made in Monday’s provincial election when those in Regina Pasqua elected the province’s first ever Muslim MLA.
Mohammed Fiaz captured the seat for the Saskatchewan Party on a night he says he will never forget.
Fiaz, who came to Canada from Pakistan in 1995, is honored to be the first Muslim in the 111 year history of the province to serve as an MLA and he is hoping this might persuade others of his faith to pursue a political path regardless of what party they support.
Fiaz adds is he is not coming to the Legislature to just be a voice for Saskatchewan’s Muslim community saying he was voted in to serve all people.
He also stated it was a surreal moment when he was in the room with the other Saskparty MLA’s elected in what was their first caucus meeting earlier this week saying his first term in office will definitely be a learning experience as he watches more veteran members of the party and takes notes to see how they do their day-to-day business.
