The Regina Pats scored three times in the third period and won game 3 over the Red Deer Rebels 6-3. They now trail the best of seven series 2-1.
In the first period the Pats and Rebels played a solid and tight opening few minutes. The Rebels got the first powerplay which the Pats killed off and then got a man advantage of their won which Red Deer got through unscathed. The Rebels got the next powerplay later in the frame and for the first time in the series scored the opening goal. Jake DeBrusk jammed in a loose puck in the crease for his 4th with assists to Luke Philp and Michael Spacek at 16:08 and it was 1-0. The Pats then got their second powerplay and tied the game 1-1. Riley Woods a great play to come off the right halfwall and he fed Jake Leschyshyn in the slot, he snapped home his 1st of the post season at 18:15. The Rebels took yet another penalty with 20 seconds left and 1:40 carried over into the second in a 1-1 tie. The Rebels outshot the Pats 10-8 in the period.
In the second the Pats could not capitalize on their powerplay and 22 seconds after it expired the Rebels took the 2-1 lead. Michael Spacek got a bounce off the end wall and put in his 2nd form Brandon Hagel at 2:02. The Pats tied it up at 9:10 with their first even strength goal of the series. Sam Steel with his 6th, beating Martin 5-hole from the slot with assists to Sergey Zborovskiy and Chase Harrison and it was 2-2. The Pats then took their first lead of the game just 37 seconds later when Lane Zablocki scored on a rebound for his 3rd from Austin Wagner and Cahse Harrison at 9:47 and it was 3-2. Offsetting minors saw the game go 4 on 4 and the Rebels were able to tie it up. Nelson Nogier put one in on a rebound off the post for his 1st from Michael Spacek at 14:53 and it was 3-3. Just seconds later the Pats took the lead when Sam Steel banged in his second of the night but upon review with net was off its peg and the goal was called off. The net had been off its peg for a good 30 seconds prior and the game remained tied heading to the third period for the third time in this series. The Pats outshot Red Deer 18-10 in the period and led 26-20 overall.
In the third the Pats powerplay gave them the lead at 10:26. Connor Hobbs a one-time slap shot from the left point beat Trevor Martin along the ice for his 2nd. Colby Williams and Cole Sanford the asissts and it was 4-3. Just 12 seconds later the Pats extended their lead when Rykr Cole tipped home a point shot for his 2nd from Sergey Zborovskiy and Jake Leschyshyn to make it 5-3. The Rebels got a powerplay after that but the Pats were the ones to score. Austin Wagner tapped in a back door feed from Adam Brooks for his 3rd at 14:13 and it was 6-3 and that was the final score. The Pats trail the series now 2-1. The Pats outshot the Rebels 14-8 in the period and led 40-28 overall.
The Pats powerplay was 2 for 8 in the win and the penalty kill was 2 for 3 with a short handed goal.
The third star of the game went to the Rebels Michael Spacek who had a goal and an assist. The second star to the Pats Connor Hobbs who scored the game winner and the first star to the Pats Austin Wagner who had a goal and an assist.
The Pats host the Rebels in game 4 Wednesday at 7 o’clock at the Brandt Centre.
