The 100 Mile House BC Wranglers are the Western Canadian Junior “B” hockey champs.
Cole Zimmerman’s 2nd goal of the game at the 2:35 mark of overtime lifted the Wranglers to a 3-2 win over the Saskatoon Quakers in the gold-medal game of the 2016 Keystone Cup played at the Co-Operators Center.
Zimmerman picked up an errant pass in the high slot and rifled a wrist shot over Quakers goalie Brett Lewchuk to give the Wranglers the victory and hand Saskatoon their first defeat of the tournament.
The bronze medal game was a classic as the North Peace Navigators from Alberta defeated the host Regina Capitals 5-4. Parker Sharp sent the game into overtime when he scored with the goalie on the bench with 30 seconds left in regulation.
It set the stage for Justin Long’s winner midway through the 3rd overtime period. The goal wrecked a stellar effort in net by Regina’s Thomas Spence who stopped 53 of 58 shots.
