At least one business was at risk, and 15 scrap-vehicle lost after a grass fire near the town of Paynton got out of control.
RCMP say on April 18 at around 03:30 P.M. and off-duty RCMP member alerted the Maidstone RCMP of an grass fire in the town of Paynton.
Maidstone RCMP, the Enhanced Policing Unit, Paynton Fire Dept and Maidstone Fire Dept attended.
Highway 16 was blocked for a short time due to smoke and risk of fire, then restricted to one lane for the remainder of the time.
By 05:00pm Monday, the fire was fully and the highway reopened.
The town of Paynton was never believed to be at risk and nobody was evacuated.
At this time, the town of Paynton has a partial fire ban.
Police remind residents to be mindful of local fire bans and maintain supervision at all times of any fires.
