Last night there was a welcome sight on our street…street cleaners! It was time to get rid of all the crud left behind during the mild winter we had, which wasn’t much, but it’s still nice to have a clean street, right? There was only one problem. The machinery rolled in at around 6:30 and there were no signs posted advising homeowners to move their vehicles. In short, not much of the street actually got cleaned!
The city had all of it’s artillery out. There were 2 of the big white street cleaners, 2 of the little yellow guys, a water truck, and a huge dump truck. The trouble was, all that machinery had to roll around all of the vehicles that were still parked on the street, including ours. Nobody ran out of their houses to move their vehicles on such short notice, including me. By the time I heard the rumbling coming down the block it was too late to do anything about it.
I’ve seen other city blocks where the city has posted signs warning residents to leave the street clear of vehicles. Why not this time? It seems dumb and a huge waste of time. Why roar down the block with 6 pieces of machinery if you can’t even clean the street? It doesn’t make any sense.
I plan on calling the city today to see if the crew that was down last night can make it back for a re-do, this time posting signs letting us know when they’ll be arriving!
