The Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Shortline Rail Association are partnering to raise train safety awareness in elementary schools across the province.
Walsh Acres MLA Warren Steinley met with grade 4 students at Centennial Community School in Regina on Thursday morning to relay valuable safety messages about staying safe around trains and train tracks.
Steinley says it’s an important initiative, especially in his riding. “It’s great to come a speak to kids, especially in this area of Walsh Acres where there is a lot of tracks. To make them aware of rail safety and have a good conversation and hear some good questions, it’s always good to come to schools.”
Steinley says he hopes this message resonates in the time beyond just Rail Safety Awareness week. “It’s something we hope people keep front of mind when they are in and around tracks to make sure that they are being safe. Trains are probably some of the biggest equipment that kids will be around right so to make sure that they know it is big, heavy machinery that are dangerous and they need to always be aware.”
Rail Safety Awareness Week runs April 25th to May 1st.
