Here’s hoping all mothers out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day! My wife’s Mother’s Day consisted of two great meals on both sides of a busy day. My wife and I were up early yesterday and headed out for a delicious breakfast to kick off her Mother’s Day. After that, it was all work.
As I mentioned in one of my blogs last week, we are redoing our bathroom. That project should begin in earnest this week, but there was a little prep to do which we did on Saturday. While we were doing that we were also waiting for a delivery of 2 yards of topsoil for the backyard. We waited and waited, but it never did show up on Saturday. When we got home from breakfast yesterday, the dirt had magically appeared. Oh well, a day late is better than never. A friend of mine was dropping it off for us and just couldn’t find the time to drop it off Saturday as he had planned.
No big deal. Off to the shed I went and out came the shovel and the wheelbarrow. We were planning on planting grass around our deck area and the only reason Saturday would have been better than yesterday could be summed up in one word. Wind. There was a lot of it going around yesterday, but none to speak of the day before. Again, no big deal.
I hauled the dirt into the yard and my wife was at work with a rake spreading it around. After every four or five wheelbarrow loads, I made a beeline for the living room to relax, grab a cold glass of water, and keep up to date with the Blue Jays game.
After the dirt was spread evenly I grabbed my grass spreader and went to work with the seed with my wife following behind with the roller. With the wind as gusty as it was, we didn’t have time to kill. I wanted to get that stuff packed down before it had a chance to fly away. Once that was done it was time for the hose to spray things down. Things worked out well. If you were watching my wife and I, you’d of thought we’d done this before. Nothing beats good teamwork.
To wrap up our Sunday I stepped out on the deck with some potatoes wrapped in tin foil and a couple of huge T-bone steaks. It was barbeque time. After supper we took Max for a quick run to the park. By the time the day was done, all three of us were ready for a good nights sleep, which we all got, judging by the fact that neither the dog or my wife budged while I was getting ready for work this morning!
