As part of its commitment to notify the public when a taser is used against someone, Regina police are advising the public of an incident Friday morning where the device was needed to control a 38 year old woman threatening harm to herself.
Police were called to a north end park just before 10:30 where they found the woman, who had contacted the police communications centre, saying she planned on harming herself.
When officers located the woman, she was carrying a knife and after a brief foot-chase, negotiated with the two officers.
A release says the woman was highly emotional and agitated and it appeared as if she was ready to harm herself.
After several minutes, the woman tried to cut herself when the taser was deployed bringing the situation to an end.
She was checked over by EMS at the scene and then sent to hospital.
At this time, the woman is not facing charges.
