An Opportunities Agreement signed by BHP Billiton and Day Star First Nation has brought good news to residents of that First Nation located near Punnichy.
Because of the agreement, a low pressure water system has been installed that connects the final 15 homes. Until now, those homes did not have a permanent connection the community water treatment facility.
The homes operated on cisterns and trucked potable water services. Chris Ryder, Head of BHP’s Corporate Affairs, says that providing continuous basic drinking water is an essential service.
BHP’s Jansen Potash Project is located about 75km from the Day Star First Nation.
