Brett Smith is hoping his experience gives him an advantage.
There is no doubt Darian Durant is the Riders number one quarterback going into the 2016 season, but Smith is battling B-J Coleman and Jacob Huesman for the backup spot.
Following Day 4 of Riders training camp in Saskatoon, Smith said it is his hope the eight games he started last season gives him a leg up on the competition. Head coach and general manager Chris Jones told reporters the competition is still wide open though.
Linebacker Jeff Knox Junior, defensive lineman Justin Capiccotti and receiver John Chiles were once again absent from practice on Wednesday, but assistant general manager John Murphy while visiting “The Sportscage” said no one should be overly concerned about the fact they are missing time as it is nothing serious.
Murphy also talked about the hold-out of number one draft pick Josiah St. John saying the team is prepared to have the Oklahoma offensive lineman sit for a very long time.
