Regina is getting a new Transit Fleet Maintenance Facility thanks to funding from the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
The feds and the province will contribute $9.7 million dollars each and the city will pay the other $10.6 million for the $30 million dollar project.
Mayor Michael Fougere says the facility is needed to replace the outdated on on 6th Avenue. “It is an obsolete building. it’s simply unable to function properly to service a growing transit fleet for our city and our community. This is our major project and first most, biggest priority for us and we see this as a way to enhance transit service across out city.”
Fougere says the new facility will increase efficiency and save upwards of 3000 man hours a year which are spent transporting buses back and forth between the current fleet maintenance facility and the Transit Operations Centre. The new facility will be located adjacent to the TOC on Winnipeg Street.
