Organizers of the Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival say last Saturday’s event raised nine thousand dollars for local youth.
The Bacon Festival was held in Kipling, about 130 kilometers southeast of Regina.
Ticket holders sampled a variety of recipes, all containing bacon.
There were entries from local amateur cooks as well as professional chefs.
Scott Kearns is one of the people who organized the Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival.
He says there were 16 chefs and home cooks with a total of 19 dishes.
The dishes included bacon caramels, bacon wrapped shrimp, and candied bacon.
Winning dishes will go to the Canadian food championships in Edmonton.
Some of the 9 thousand dollars raised will go to fixing up the outside of the Kipling Youth Centre.
A portion may be assigned to a BMX bike park being planned for the community.
