The Saskatchewan government is assessing all 52 of its septic tanks across the province after a toddler fell into one near Maple Creek.
The 21-month-old youngster from Calgary was playing with her two older sisters on the tank lid during a rest stop at an information centre last Thursday when the cover gave way.
The girl, named Nataya, fell nearly three metres but her father managed to rescue her.
Richard Murray with the Ministry of Central Services says the reason for the failure is still a mystery.
Trevor Pickersgill and Denaie McCarthy, Nataya’s parents, have been told to monitor their daughter for signs of a concussion and possible bacterial infection from the tank.
