Take-home Naloxone kits will be available in Regina starting July 4th.
Naloxone is an injectable medication used to quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. it is used by paramedics and emergency departments and will be expanding to the community through the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Regions Harm Reduction Methadone Program.
Naloxone can remove the effects of an overdose and restore breathing within several minutes.
Beginning July 4th, Naloxone kits and training will be available free of charge for those who have been identified as at risk for an opioid overdose.
The Ministry of Health is providing $50,000 for the programs in both Regina and Saskatoon.
