A Celebration of 125 years of Ukrainian immigration to Canada will take place in Victoria Park on August 13.
In January, the provincial government dubbed 2016 the “Year of the Saskatchewan Ukrainians” as a testament to one of the largest, earliest groups to settle in the Province.
2016 also marks the 25th year of independence of Ukraine.
The festival will celebrate Ukrainian culture’s contributions to Saskatchewan and Canada.
The festival is looking at celebrating the relationship between Ukrainians and Aboriginal communities by participating in a cultural-exchange.
Organizers say “the day’s exchange is believed to be the first of ti’s kind.”
These will include a cultural-exchange fashion show, as well as dances and story-telling.
The festival begins at 11 A.M. with cross-cultural exchange programming going from 12:45 to 5:15 P.M.
