The National Farmers Union has issued a statement expressing sadness over the tragic shooting of Colten Boushie at a farm near Biggar last week.
Boushie’s cousin says they were returning home to the Red Pheasant First Nation when they got a flat tire and turned onto the farm for help.
Farmer Gerald Stanley has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree murder.
The NFU says as farmers, the group condemns rampant racist remarks that have circulated since the death of Boushie, including comments made on the Saskatchewan Farmers facebook group.
The NFU is committed to building relationships on mutual respect and friendship with indigenous neighbours, and to honour treaty obligations.
