University of Regina Rams quarterback Noah Picton has been named Canada West Offensive Player of the Week after his sterling performance in the team’s 41-39 overtime road loss to Saskatchewan on Friday night.
Picton set career highs across the board in the game, finishing with 471 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and 108 rushing yards for the Rams.
Picton completed 29 of his 41 pass attempts during the game and had three for over 50 yards, including an 85-yard touchdown to Khalid Kornegay and a 65-yard strike to Ryan Schienbein, also for a major. His longest rush was a 46-yard scramble on the team’s first possession of the game, which set up a Simon touchdown.
His 471 passing yards stand as the third-highest single-game total in University of Regina history, and he becomes just the second Rams quarterback to rush for over 100 yards in a single CIS game. Darryl Leason is the only other U of R pivot to hit that milestone, and he did it twice during the 2000 postseason – first in the team’s Hardy Cup win over Manitoba, then three weeks later in the Vanier Cup against Ottawa.
