A week from today a group of new friends are putting on a little party and it would be great if you were there.
This event will go along way in making a bunch of Saskatchewan kids happy next June when they head of to summer Camp. Oddly enough, the event is held on the first day of fall 2016.
I joined the Regina Downtowners Optimist Club a couple years ago. The main goal for the organization is to support youth in our community. Throughout the year our club holds events for the youth, this includes the band festival in March and oratorical competitions in April, there are curling bonspiels we sponsor, scholarships to be won. All of these events are great but we also reach out to others to help us raise money so we can give back to the community.
We engage community members to help with beer sales at the Roughriders and Rams games, the Downtowners Optimist Club in turn gives back to those groups, to help with their operational costs. These groups could be supporting a youth trip overseas, a youth sport or cultural group.
Enter the “WIGS & WINE Charity Event” .. this special evening is helping out a very cool camp for some special children.
Camp Circle of Friends is located on the east shores of Last Mount Lake. The camp is set up for children diagnosed with cancer, their siblings, those that are in treatment. There is medical staff on site and the volunteers make kids feel welcome, safe and best of all “normal” for a week in the summer.
But like everything it takes funds to keep a camp running.
This year we are missing an advocate for the camp. Former Saskatchewan Roughrider, Tyron Brackenridge.
T-Brack hosted a couple of steak nights and thanks to his generosity, donated some funds to Camp Circle of Friends. The Camp misses Tyron, as many of us do. When that happens you keep the ball rolling by picking up the slack. Enter Optimist member Shane and his idea of holding an event that exclusively helps this camp. Shane is also a volunteer there.
Here’s the deal: We need to sell tickets. Only 125 are available. The prizes, the venue, the food and beverages are in place. What is missing is the generosity of Saskatchewan. It is a night of music, mingling, memories and future plans of Camp Circle of Friends. The event itself is just 3 hours.
There will be a Photo Booth where you can style your favorite fun wig and win a prize for the best photo session! Please Bring Your Own Wig! Justin LaBrash & Ken Jefferson will be entertaining through the night.
Our raffle prize ticket is just $20 and you could walk out with a YEAR of WINE from Willow Park Wines and Spirits – that’s 4 different bottles each month.
You’re a kid – maybe you just take it in stride….but imagine being diagnosed with cancer just before you’re packing off to camp.
Imagine being restricted from all your usual activities.
Camp Circle of Friends offers medical staff (VOLUNTEERING their time). Golf carts motor the campers around, if they need it. Camp as usual, with a twist.
Once again, $60 per ticket. Limited amount of tickets. A swag bag with goodies including wine glass and a complimentary glass of wine. WIG Photo Booth. Tapas. Music. WINE RAFFLE plus secondary prizes.
It will be fun!
Thanks to 620 CKRM for giving me the platform to raise awareness and interest in Camp Circle of Friends.
