Farmers in west central Saskatchewan are carrying shotguns and rifles after a rash of crimes during the past week.
Jim Wickett farms near Rosetown and says farmers are nervous after a series of stolen vehicles, break-ins, and an attempted hold-up at the side of a rural road.
He says farmers are prepared to defend themselves.
He says producers are carrying rifles in their combines and trucks for safety.
He is hoping police will step up rural patrols and nab the suspects.
RCMP say three masked men, each with a handgun, approached a farmhand driving a truck on a rural road near Fiske this week, but the farmworker sped away.
Wickett says there have been incidents every night for the past week.
He is chair of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association.
